Compare platforms. Prepare a clear RFQ.
Delivery-format comparison, quotation scope and downloadable worksheets for injection pen sourcing.
Choose a platform around the project requirements
Choose a delivery format by comparing the container, dose scheme, user tasks and responsibilities for the complete presentation. Disposable pens, reusable cartridge pens, autoinjectors and connected pens address different project requirements. The comparison below is a starting framework for procurement teams, with direct links to the relevant platform and configuration pages. It does not rank platforms by sales or promise that one mechanism works with every medicine. Define the required administration volume, dose selection, compatible container and intended use before comparing prices or exterior styling. For connected projects, add event definitions, application compatibility and support ownership to the mechanical requirements. Use the downloadable RFQ template to record known inputs and open decisions. Suppliers can then identify assumptions and deviations against the same brief, making sample proposals and commercial offers easier to compare on equivalent technical and supply terms.
| Format | Starting requirement | Review priority |
|---|---|---|
| Disposable pen | Integrated container; fill and dose count to define | Whole-device end-of-use behavior |
| Reusable pen | Named replaceable cartridge; reset sequence | Cartridge compatibility and mechanical lifetime |
| Autoinjector | Named primary container and automated tasks | Delivery envelope and completion feedback |
| Smart or connected pen | Mechanical platform plus a defined digital function | Event meaning, software compatibility and support |
| Needle-free concept | Pressure-driven delivery architecture to assess | Application-specific feasibility and consumables |
| Accessories | Named device and compatible component interfaces | Part revisions, handling and traceability |
Prepare the RFQ before comparing suppliers
An effective injection pen RFQ identifies the requested supply boundary before asking for a unit price. State whether the inquiry covers an empty device, components, development work, packaging or a finished presentation under a defined arrangement. Include the container drawing reference, dose requirements, target market, customization and project stage. Record unknown inputs openly rather than substituting typical figures from another device. The downloadable template separates technical inputs, sample quantities, pilot orders, production forecasts and evidence requests so that a supplier can explain its proposed scope. Request a response listing assumptions, deviations, deliverables and the entity responsible for each activity. Attach only documents you are authorized to share, and agree a suitable confidentiality arrangement for sensitive project information. A complete brief should make the next decision clear: a feasibility review, an appearance sample, an engineering prototype or a quotation for a specified supply configuration.

Compare price, compatibility and responsibility together
Compare quotations using the same configuration and commercial assumptions. Separate unit supply, tooling, engineering, samples, verification work, artwork, packaging and logistics where relevant. Record currency, trade terms, quantity, included documentation and the event from which lead time starts. A sample price does not establish a production price, and production time does not describe the complete development timeline. The comparison worksheet includes space for exclusions, substitutions and unresolved requirements so that a low headline price can be evaluated against the actual offer. Use the compatibility matrix to record the device, container, closure, needle interface and supporting revision references as a separate technical decision. Identify who can approve changes to those components. Before accepting a proposal, reconcile commercial deliverables with the supplier evidence checklist and the sample acceptance purpose. This creates a traceable basis for the purchasing decision and future change review.
| Quotation item | What to record |
|---|---|
| Unit supply | Exact configuration, quantity, inclusions and currency |
| Development and tooling | Scope, deliverables, ownership and separate charges |
| Samples | Appearance or engineering purpose and acceptance stage |
| Evidence | Document scope, responsible entity and outstanding inputs |
| Timing | Starting event, buyer inputs and shipping assumptions |
